Milestones’ Approach: Nurturing Hope in Recovery

At Milestones, our approach to Anorexia is distinctive, addressing the challenges with empathy and innovation. Our SMERF system for promoting long term recovery emphasis daily connection to Spirituality, Meditation, Exercise, Rest and Food. Our unique approach to eating disorders first acknowledges how behaviors around the control of the food and body often intersect with other diagnoses. Approaching eating disordered behaviors concurrently with other addictive and/or compulsive behaviors in a residential setting set up to prepare clients for real world. Milestones prioritizes “real-world” recovery over rapid weight restoration. Our comprehensive approach focuses on sustainable healing, preparing individuals for life beyond treatment.

Our team, comprising experienced professionals, is dedicated to guiding individuals toward comprehensive recovery.

Our company values, diversity and inclusion initiatives and clinical outlook address the person as a whole, not just the diagnoses. We incorporate holistic therapies, individualized treatment plans, and family (including family of choice) in treatment.

Our community is the heart of our program. Emphasis of self-led recovery with community support means our clients find ways in which they relate to each other and can support each other, rather than how they are divided. Milestones includes all “types” of eating disordered diagnoses in the same community, the similarities are much more numerous than the differences. Our alumni then have a wide reaching community to be a part of, a crucial component of long term recovery.

Treatment options

Residential Treatment for
Anorexia

Our residential program takes place within a supportive, non-hospital community setting. Participants reside in apartment-style residences and attend a variety of therapies at our nearby clinical campus. The staff at Milestones provides 24/7 supervision and support and does so without the need for a restrictive environment typical of most hospital-based centers.  Our evidenced-based treatment incorporates a combination of talk therapies and daily living skills. Our goal is to help you attain a better sense of self- acceptance and provide you with “real world” experiences. These include opportunities with meal planning and meal prep, grocery shopping, healthy exercise, self-care, and community-based activities and support groups.

Intensive Outpatient
Treatments

Intensive Outpatient Treatment [IOP] is an abbreviated version of the PHP program. IOP is intended for individuals making the transition from higher levels of care. These may include inpatient/hospital-based, residential, and partial hospital settings. Considerably more comprehensive than typical weekly or bi-weekly outpatient treatment, IOP typically involves weekday sessions that are a minimum of three hours per session. Attendance may range from a minimum of 3X to a maximum of 7X weekly. The program is comprised of group and individual sessions, ongoing consultations with the program dietitian, medical oversight, and many of the services offered at both the residential and partial hospital levels of care. Part of the mission of IOP is to begin the process of making the final transition from Milestones to home. Like PHP, telehealth services are offered to those out-of-area individuals approved by the clinical team. Once more, the last day of Milestones and the next day home is intended to be as “seamless” as possible.

PHP [Day] Treatment
Programs

The Partial Hospital Program [PHP], sometimes referred to as “Day Treatment”, is intended as a “step-down” or transition level of care. It is intended for people ready to put into practice the experiences gained from their residential stay. PHP involves a minimum of three days and a maximum of seven days of weekly participation. The transition to this program may necessitate arranging for “room and board” off-site or near-site to Milestones. In some instances, arrangements can be made to remain at the residential campus while participating. For out-of-area participants, a telehealth option may be available. This level of care consists of the same elements experienced in the IOP program with an additional schedule of therapies and activities identical to those of the residential program. A typical PHP schedule begins at 9:00 am and ends at 3:00 or 4:00 PM. Not included are a grocery allowance, transportation to and from the clinical campus, and the evening, weekend, and overnight components afforded to the residential participants.* *Unless boarding at the residential campus

Telehealth Programs

Milestones currently offers a Telehealth Program for all levels of care other than residential. As such, out-of-area individuals transitioning home may benefit from the continuity of care offered via this medium. Therapies such as individual consultations with professional staff, nutrition, meal planning, online support groups, etc. are offered to telehealth participants. Although intended for individuals transitioning from the residential program, there are instances where former participants and certain individuals may be accepted to the telehealth program without having been residential members of the community. These exceptions require clinical assessments and the approval of the program director and admissions team. Alumni and Aftercare Programs Milestones offers weekly telehealth support facilitated by Milestones alumni and Clinical Staff. Please refer to the section on events and aftercare on this website.

Stabilization Program

Our Anorexia Nervosa Stabilization Program offers a 2-week "Reboot" opportunity for those Alumni who have attended and completed our residential program. This program is designed to offer rejuvenation in relation to a person's recovery while simultaneously offering support, nutrition counseling, residential accommodations, and therapeutic opportunities.

Aftercare and Support Program

The Milestones Support Program* is facilitated and managed by our dedicated Alumni Coordinator. Apart from the continuing care plan offered upon discharge, a weekly alumni group is hosted by a Milestones staff member. In addition, a weekly “Constructive Living” recovery group is hosted by one of the lead clinicians at Milestones. Furthermore, a schedule of upcoming events, seminars, and resources are listed on our website and social media outlets. Our mission is to provide ongoing support throughout your recovery journey and beyond.
