Recovery and Renaissance Nutrition Center, Inc. We will come together to
provide a Weekend Retreat for fun, fellowship, and recharge.
And this year the SERFs turn into SMERFS!

MIND OVER MATTERS”: Mindfulness, Meditation, and Step 11

Mindfulness, when defined as self-awareness, [e.g. cultivating the ability to catch ourselves distracted from the present moment], and the practice of meditation can afford us the opportunity to become aware of the distorted reality or projected reality that is the source of most suffering, especially our food disorders.

Meditation has been explained as a mode of mindfulness that leads incrementally towards an “awakening:” an understanding of human interaction in the world that is both craving and delusion-free. From Marty’s perspective, this is limiting delusion and denial, and bringing clarity and purpose into focus. We have the choice to live an awakened life… This is a choice to be mindful, see our patterns, and recognize the delusions that lead us to act the way we do. In Twelve Step terms, it is the practice of taking inventory, searching out what’s driving our actions and reactions, and taking responsibility for it. Marty Lerner, PhD, Founder and CEO of Milestones in Recovery
A graduate of Nova Southeastern University, Dr. Lerner is a licensed and board certified clinical psychologist who has specialized in the treatment of eating disorders since 1980. He has appeared on numerous national television and radio programs and has authored several publications related to eating disorders in professional literature, national magazines, and newspapers. A dynamic and professional speaker, Dr. Lerner’s lectures and workshops offer both an informative and entertaining experience for those attending.

Molly Carmel, LCSW-R, Founder of The Beacon Program in Manhattan

Molly has specialized in the treatment of addictions and eating disorders for 15 years. She runs the Beacon Program, which is dedicated to helping clients find freedom from compulsive overeating, food addiction, and eating disorders. Molly received her graduate degree from Columbia University, and Molly’s work has been praised by The Today Show, Dr. Oz, People Magazine, and many others. She is intensively trained in Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, is a Reiki Master and a trained Shaman.

H. Theresa Wright, MS, RD, LDN, Founder and President of Renaissance Nutrition Center, Inc.

Theresa has both a BS and MS in Nutrition and is a skilled and gentle nutrition therapist. For more than 30 years she has specialized in helping those with addictive, compulsive eating disorders transform their relationship with food. She creates and teaches many programs combining practical nutrition skills with self-management techniques and principles of personal growth. In addition to professional articles and
book chapters, she has written “Your Personal Food Plan Guide”, three cookbooks titled “Delicious Recovery”, and “Anna’s Horse,” a workbook about self-care. Theresa has been named one of Today’s Dietitian magazine’s “10 Incredible Registered Dietitians Who Are Making a Difference”.
